Dennis RedMoon Darkeem
Dennis RedMoon Darkeem merges folk and indigenous art aesthetics with pop-contemporary imagery to contemplate issues of racism and the disfranchisement of people of color. In his photo series Protect your Neck (2020), Darkeem presents portraits of hooded figures gagged by feathers, rattles, stones, sage, and sweetgrass—objects associated with spiritual ceremonies and customs—exploring the silencing effects of trauma and the power in reclaiming spirituality. -David Rios Ferreira
Selfcare: Sacred Spaces
Darkeem believes colors motivate one's own sacred space and offers visitors to the exhibition an opportunity to reflect on identity making through coloring sheets based on Protect your Neck (2020).
