Empty Set is pleased to present “The Ghastly Gang“, a showcase of John Dominguez’s Neo-expressionist paintings. Dominguez is a tactile portrait painter searching for pure expression through experimentation and evaluation of abstraction. Inspired by human interactions and the social tendencies of man, he depicts people as crude characters expressing their feelings and acting out emotions. The compositions present an opportunity for introspection and investigate the interpretation of personal existence in everyday life. He uses the art historical language of abstraction expressionism as a point of departure for these investigations.

John Dominguez is a Cuban-American Neo-expressionist painter who was born in New York and whose work has been showcased in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and Cleveland, as well as internationally in Havana and Mexico City. He is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently resides in Northampton, MA.

The Ghastly Gang will be on view from Wednesday August 11th through Friday, September 3rd at Empty Set, 860 E. 136th Street, #10D, Bronx, NY. The virtual opening will take place on Friday, August 13th at 6:00pm on Instagram Live (@empty.set.gallery). The gallery will also host a virtual artist talk at a date to be determined.
